How to become a Professional motorcross rider?
Basically i watch a few motorcross racing with my Dad.
I would like to become a pro rider myself
How would i do this ?
what equipment would i need ?
I like the look of CR 250's and KX 250's
I'm 16 and very tall, 6 foot 2
What equipment would i need ?
would i need to sign up somewhere ?
Please help
Thanks
Forgot to mention, yes i have ridden bikes for about 6 years
At the moment i have a four stroke Honda XLR 125
Could this bike enter races ?
Unless you have prior race experience you would not want to start on a cr250 and the bike you have is no good to race. You would do better with a crf250r as that would be slightly more achievable. But starting out racing with the idea of turning pro before you have ever raced is not the best idea. Most riders who turn pro have been racing since they were 4 years old and have a natural progression through the sport learning as they go. It is also a little bit of a disadvantage to be as tall as you are. As for equipment if you are only going to race at a local level and for fun the basics would do but if you want to take it further you would need deep pockets as once you are getting competant on a bike you will most likely need to update your bike at least every year if not every 6 months as without a fresh bike you don't stand a chance. Most riders who are racing at or towards an elite level have all the added extra on their bikes with the suspension done by experts, after market pipes, bars, suspension, and the motor done by those who know what they are doing to get the most out of a bike. You need several sets of gear to compete at a high level as you need to look presentable at those events and it is actually in most supplementary regulations that you are presented well. You have to have helmet, gloves by the dozen, goggles, boots, knee braces. Then you get to things like pit tents, vans or trailers, stands for the bike and even down to tear off for goggles can be up to $20 for a pack and I have known my darling to acidently rip off a whole laminated layer of them by accident in a race and you just look and say Dollar, Dollar, Dollar.
To get any form of sponsorship you need to be winning major events and also be someone that can represent a sponsor well. You must also want to ride more than you even want to breath air if you want to take the sport all the way.
But if you just want to start racing and see where it will take you and have some fun along the way, you should search for tracks close to you and go along for some practice days and see if you even like the sport. The sport is a lot of fun and there is a section to suit all level of riders. Although to get to an elite level not too many people are prepared to break several bones and then get back on a bike. Nearly all the young riders I know who race against my son at an elite level can fill a page with the injuries they have had and my own son is not exclusion to that. He has broken both arms at once, his leg, his foot, his wrist again, been knocked out more times than I care to remember and his worst by far was totally dislocating his whole leg.
If you are still interested then look at these sites for tracks.
